Fragments

This entry is part 10 of 17 in the series Brokenhearted

As I sit here now thinking about you
drinking my coffee this morning, I'm free,
realizing this life provides very few

opportunities for someone like me
to find friends like you. As I watch the birds,
drinking my coffee this morning, I'm free,

they flit around me unaware, no words
to ease your pain, no worry or need
to find friends like you. As I watch the birds,

wondering where our paths might lead us, seed
on the ground drawing them in, I wanted
to ease your pain. No worry or need

to extend yourself, here I am. I'm haunted
thinking how struggles—and some friends!—leave us
on the ground. Drawing them in, I wanted

to share our fragments of joy, which I suss
as I sit here now thinking about you,
thinking how struggles and some friends leave us,
realizing that life provides very few.
